This Privacy Policy explains what personal data our board game apps collect, why, who we share
it with, and the rights you have. It covers the Coolplay apps —
Backgammon, Chess, Checkers, Mills, Mancala, Four In A Row and Warships — and their online
services. (For the coolplay.io website itself, see our
Cookies & Privacy page.)

1. What we collect
We collect only what we need to run the games, keep them fair and safe, and support them financially:
- Account & profile: a username, the country you choose, your avatar or profile picture, and — only if you choose to register — your email address and a password (stored only as a salted hash, never in plain text).
- Device & technical: a device identifier, device model, operating system and platform (iOS/Android), app version, language, and your IP address (from which we derive an approximate country).
- Gameplay: your scores, ELO rating, coin balance, wins/losses/ties, achievements, friends and blocked-user lists, and similar in-game statistics and events.
- User content & communications: chat messages, profile pictures, and other content you create or send (see Section 4).
- Purchases: a record of your in-app purchases and subscription status. Payment-card details are handled by Apple or Google, not by us.
- Support & moderation: messages you send to support, and reports or blocks you submit or that concern you.
2. How and why we use it (and our legal bases)
- To provide the games — create your account, run matches, save progress, enable chat and friends, sync across devices. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
- To keep the Service safe and fair — moderate content, screen profile pictures and names, handle reports and blocks, detect cheating and fraud, and enforce our Terms of Use. Legal basis: legitimate interests and legal obligations.
- To process purchases — verify and credit in-app purchases and subscriptions. Legal basis: performance of our contract.
- To send notifications — push notifications about games, invites, chat, and rewards. Legal basis: your consent (device permission), which you can withdraw in your device settings.
- To show advertising — including personalized ads where you allow it. Legal basis: consent. See Section 5.
- To understand and improve the apps — analytics, crash reporting, and measuring marketing. Legal basis: consent and/or legitimate interests.
3. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract, to make the apps work. Key partners include:
- Google / Firebase — cloud database and storage, crash reporting, analytics, remote configuration, and push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging). (policy)
- Google Cloud Vision — automated screening of profile pictures for objectionable imagery.
- Google Cloud Translation — optional translation of in-app text.
- AppLovin MAX — ad mediation, together with Google AdMob and the advertising networks listed in Section 5, to show and measure ads. (AppLovin · Google)
- Singular — measuring app installs and marketing performance (attribution). (policy)
- Meta Platforms (Facebook SDK) — marketing measurement and social sharing. (policy)
- Twilio SendGrid — sending account and verification emails. (policy)
- ipgeolocation.io — converting your IP address into an approximate country.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — processing payments and verifying purchase receipts.
We may also disclose data where required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users, the public, or Coolplay.
4. User content, chat, and moderation
Chat messages are stored on our servers so conversations can be delivered and shown in-game and between friends; we keep only a limited recent history per conversation. Usernames, profile pictures, avatars, country, and stats are visible to other players as part of normal gameplay.
To keep the community safe, profile pictures are automatically screened for objectionable imagery, usernames are filtered, and in-game chat is checked by a profanity filter. Private messaging is available only between players who have accepted each other as friends and is not automatically filtered. You can report or block any user from their profile; blocked users’ messages are no longer delivered to you. We review reports and act on objectionable content — typically within 24 hours — by removing it and restricting or banning the responsible account. Please don’t share sensitive personal information in chat or your profile.
5. Advertising and tracking
Our free apps are supported by ads. We use AppLovin MAX to mediate ads from several advertising networks; depending on availability and your consent, ads and ad measurement may be provided by any of the following partners, each of which processes data under its own privacy policy:
- Google AdMob
- AppLovin
- Meta Audience Network
- Unity Ads & ironSource (Unity LevelPlay)
- Liftoff / Vungle
- Chartboost
- InMobi
- Mintegral
- Pangle (ByteDance)
- Ogury
- Fyber / Digital Turbine
- BidMachine
Depending on your choices, ads may be personalized (based on an advertising identifier) or non-personalized.
- On iOS, we ask for your permission through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt before using your advertising identifier (IDFA) for personalized ads or cross-app measurement. If you decline, we don’t use it for that.
- On Android, personalized ads use your Google Advertising ID (GAID), which you can reset or limit in your device settings.
- You can avoid ads entirely with a “Pro” / ad-free subscription, and you can change your consent choices at any time in the app’s settings or your device settings.
6. International transfers
Some of our providers are based outside the EU/EEA (for example, in the United States). When data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision, so that your data remains protected.
7. How long we keep data
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. Chat history is limited to a recent window per conversation. Some aggregate or game-related records (for example, leaderboard statistics and event logs needed for fraud prevention and accounting) may be retained longer or in anonymised form. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data as described in Section 9, keeping only what we must for legal, security, or accounting reasons.
8. Your rights
If the GDPR applies to you, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing already carried out). To exercise these rights, contact office@coolplay.io.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Our lead authority is the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde), Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, Austria — www.dsb.gv.at. You may also complain to the authority in your own country.
9. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time:
- In the app: go to Settings and tap Delete Account. This is performed immediately and cannot be undone.
- By web form: if you no longer have the app, use our account-deletion form.
On deletion we permanently remove your email, password, and push token, delete your chat conversations, overwrite your profile images, and replace your name with an anonymous placeholder. Some statistics that are linked to leaderboards and other players may be retained in anonymised form.
10. Children
The apps are not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Where required, users under the age of digital consent (16 in some EU/EEA countries) need a parent’s or guardian’s consent. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact office@coolplay.io and we will delete it.
11. Security
We use technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit, salted password hashing, and access controls — to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond promptly to any incident.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide additional notice in the app.
